Protest will cause transport disruptions

Approximately 12,000 indigenous protesters are expected to arrive in Bogota on 20 November 2008. The protesters plan to hold demonstrations at the National University of Colombia in the university district of central Bogota through 23 November. Authorities plan to put detours in place along the Southern Highway and will deploy security forces to maintain order, as there have been several instances of violence during the indigenous protesters' past demonstrations. Travellers should anticipate additional transportation disruptions through 23 November. Representatives of the protesters plan to meet with President Alvaro Uribe on 21 November to discuss the protesters' grievances over land policy.
