Indigenous protesters blocked four areas along the Pan-American Highway

Approximately 7,000 indigenous protesters blocked four areas along the Pan-American Highway between the cities of Cali and Popayan in southwestern Colombia on 14 October 2008. At least one person was killed and 50 others injured in clashes between the protesters and riot police officers. The Colombian government has alleged that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is assisting the protesters, who are opposed to the government's free market economic policies and the proposed U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.
