Cargo plane crashes on take off at Madrid, Colombia

A 747-200 cargo aircraft crashed near Madrid, Colombia, at 0358 local time on 7 July 2008, shortly after takeoff from El Dorado International Airport (SKBO/BOG) in Bogota, killing three people on the ground. According to a Colombian aviation official, the aircraft attempted to return to Bogota after a fire occurred in one of the engines. All eight crewmembers survived. Reports on ownership are inconsistent but some sources indicate that the aircraft was either chartered or wet-leased by Miami-based Centurion Air Cargo from Kalitta Air.
