Florence
Florence is a superb shopping destination with all the big fashion names of Milan, but a more manageable and enjoyable grid of quaint little streets with stylish cafés and ice cream parlours. One of the city's best retail pleasures, however, is stumbling across its little-known traditional shops dotted around the city. It is the perfect destination for a romantic laid-back weekend.
Lisbon
The fascinating mix of cutting-edge modernity and respect for traditions makes Lisbon quite unique and certainly worth exploring. There is a huge variety of architectural styles and some spectacular buildings, including rare examples of Forties architecture. Couples will appreciate the quaint little hotels, mild weather and exquisite food, including the country’s famous Pasteis de Natas (delightful custard tarts), also known as Pasteis de Belem.
Lyon
Known in France as the Capital of Gastronomy, Lyon also boasts 500 hectares of World Heritage Site listed by UNESCO. Vieux Lyon (the old part of the city) which goes from Saint-George’s right up to Saint-Paul with the Saint-Jean Cathedral at its heart, is simply breathtaking. The combination of quaintness, charm and fine cuisine makes Lyon a must see this autumn.
