Taxi drivers’ strike continues

04 Nov 2008
A taxi drivers’ strike continued for a second consecutive day in Chongqing on 4 November 2008. The drivers are demanding that the government address fuel shortages and high operational fees. The strike -- unlike the one that occurred on 3 November -- remained peaceful, with no additional damage to vehicles. According to reports, 800 of the 9,000 taxis on strike returned to work on the evening of 3 November; however, the majority is still in negotiations with officials. An official review regarding the drivers’ stance is currently underway, with issues such as fuel supplies and unlicensed drivers being addressed.
