Taxi drivers in Chongging City went on strike
03 Nov 2008
On 3 November 2008 taxi drivers in Chongging City went on strike to protest high operating costs, natural gas shortages, high traffic fines and unlicensed drivers who have been taking their business. Striking drivers smashed the windows of police cars and of other taxis that remained in operation and pulled people out of the taxis.
The strike stranded many commuters, who were unable to find transportation to work. Travellers could not travel to or from the airport. Although buses were still operational in the city, they were too crowded to accommodate all of the people in the city who required transportation.
