07 Jul 2008
China's Civil Aviation Administration announced on 7 July 2008 that it will institute increased security measures at major airports in the lead-up to the Olympic Games, which will start on 8 August. These additional security checks will begin on 20 July in the Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin and Shenyang airports; airports in other cities that are hosting Olympic events will also increase their security measures. The airport security move is aimed at preventing terrorist groups from carrying out attacks during the Games.
