Hong Kong Taxi Drivers Strike
05 Jan 2010
Taxi drivers in Hong Kong staged a strike on 4 January 2010, accusing local gas stations of providing poor-quality fuel. The protesters accused Sinopec stations of providing contaminated fuel that causes vehicles to stop suddenly, resulting in traffic accidents and necessitating expensive repairs. Local media stated that 30 taxi cab drivers participated in a slow drive protest through Hong Kong before their scheduled meeting with officials of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, affecting transportation in the city. Currently the government is investigating these claims, and a report is expected in three months' time.
