HEAVY SNOW DISRUPTS MUCH OF NORTHERN CHINA

13 Nov 2009
Several days of severe snowstorms have caused serious disruptions in northern China and Beijing's international Airport was forced to cancel or postpone hundreds of flights on 11-12 November because of the weather. At least 20,000 people were affected by disruptions to Beijing's rail services. Airports in Shenyang, Chaoyang, Jinzhou, Xian and Yanji were forced to close. Several major roads were closed to traffic as well. At least 38 people in the region were killed in road accidents and building collapses. Some of the region's transportation services were beginning to return to normal on 13 November, but meteorologists are predicting that snow may continue for two more days.
