Earthquake strikes Minzhu City in Sichuan province

On 30 June 2009 an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurring at a depth of 22 mi/35 km, struck Minzhu City in Sichuan province. Nearly 9,000 houses and local roads sustained damage; numerous injuries were reported. Power supplies and transport were also disrupted.
