Conflicting information regarding the re-opening of Tibet

The head of Tibet's tourism agency, stated on 30 March 2009 that the agency will reopen Tibet to foreign tourists on 5 April. Tibet has been under intense security since the early March anniversary of the 2008 uprising and revolt. Officials stated that although the region will reopen, a confirmation letter from local police officers is required to obtain entry. Aside from applying for permission to enter Tibet, foreigners will not be allowed to accompany a Chinese group. Conflicting reports stated that tourists will not be allowed to enter Tibet until 28 April, according to the Sichuan Travel Administration and the Chengdu China Travel Service. Other reports from hotels in Lhasa stated that Tibet will not open until 14 April.
