China braces itself for more storms
22 Jul 2010
Tropical storm Chanthu intensified as it approached the coast of Guangdong province in southern China on 21 July 2010. According to meteorologists, the storm is expected to move in a northwesterly track in the South China Sea and make landfall near the city of Zhanjiang. Authorities in China have issued a blue alert for the coastal areas of Guangdong that are still reeling from the aftermath of a previous storm, Typhoon Conson, which struck the same area on 17 July. Chanthu is expected to bring heavy rains, some high water and strong winds, although no major flooding or wind damage is likely to occur if the weather system remains at tropical storm strength.
