Additional traffic restrictions announced

11 Aug 2008
Additional traffic restrictions were announced on 10 August 2008 in Beijing. In addition to the already tight security, officials announced that areas around the venues will continue to be restricted until the conclusion of events on 24 August. Additional security measures can be seen at Chaoyang Park, Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium and Beijing Workers' Stadium in Chaoyang district (to be lifted on 24 August). The following venues will also be affected at least two hours ahead of any event and one hour after: Beijing Wukesong Culture and Sports Center, Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium, Capital Indoor Stadium, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics Gymnasium, Peking University Gymnasium, China Agricultural University Gymnasium, Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium and Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium in Haidian district, as well as the Beijing shooting range clay target field and Beijing shooting range hall. Restrictions around the Fengtai Sports Center Softball Field will be lifted on 21 August and those for the Shunyi Olympic rowing-canoeing park will be lifted on 23 August. Officials indicated through local media that any movement without passes or tickets to the events will be denied. Alternate routes suggested to avoid roadblocks and closures to Beijing Capital International Airport (ZBAA/PEK) include traveling from Yaojiayuan Road or Pingfangqiao through East Fifth Ring Road onto the second airport highway to Terminal 3.
