Acid Attack in HK Market Injures 30

11 Jan 2010
At least 30 people were injured in yet another instance of an attack using acid in Hong Kong on 9 January 2010. Police officers stated that a crowd of shoppers in the Yau Ma Tei market district was doused with the acidic liquid around 2130 local time (1330 GMT). Local doctors were reportedly treating 19 men and 11 women for serious skin abrasions and burns caused by the acid. Reports indicate that nine of the victims were foreign tourists. The attack is the latest in a string of similar criminal incidents involving acid that have occurred in Hong Kong since late 2008. Police officials claim that they have not yet determined a connection between any of the reported acid attacks.
