19yr old dies of bird flu in Beijing

After reports emerged on 6 January 2009 that a 19-year-old woman died of avian influenza in Beijing, China issued an alert on 7 January, warning the population about the disease. Poultry markets in neighbouring provinces began disinfecting their facilities. Markets in Langfang, Hebei province, where the woman purchased the poultry, were cleansed, and five shops were closed.
