State of emergency declared in Llanquihue

17 Jun 2009
Powerful storms yesterday left two provinces in the Los Lagos region without electricity. Puerto Montt, an important port city and the capital of Llanquihue province, and the archipelago of Chiloe continue to be without power, while Isla Grande, an island on the Chiloe archipelago, experienced flooding and wind damage from the storm. In response, authorities have declared a state of emergency in Llanquihue. On 17 June the storm system, which is forecast to continue until the weekend, will hit the central region, where Santiago, the national capital, is located.
