Reports from eastern Chad indicate that the Chadian government and rebels in the area have renewed fighting. The new round of fighting occurred a day after the government announced that it had defeated a new rebel offensive in the area. The government stated that its forces killed approximately 100 rebels and that they sustained some casualties during an hour of combat near Am Dam.Rebel sources claimed that the Chadian military was pinned down and that the rebels are advancing. Am Dam is located approximately 68 mi/110 km north of Goz Beida and 62 mi/100 km south of Abeche in eastern Chad. The Union of Resistance forces have previously stated that their goal is to reach N'Djamena.
