WILDFIRE FORCES EVACUATIONS IN WESTERN CANADA

On 19 July 2009 sources reported that wildfires near Kelowna, British Columbia, had forced more than 10,000 people to evacuate their homes. Other residents in the area surrounding Okanagan Lake were warned that evacuation orders could be imminent. There have been no casualties reported. Fire fighters were working to contain the fire, which began on 18 July. According to authorities, the cause of the fire in Kelowna was not thought to be related to two other fires that had broken out near Glenrosa and Rose Valley
