Flooding in power sation causes massive power outage in Toronto
16 Jan 2009
A power outage left more than 100,000 people on the west end area of Toronto without electricity. Flooding in a Toronto Hydro transformer station caused the outage shortly after 2200 local time on 15 January. Toronto Hydro officials believed that the outage would last a minimum of 18-24 hours. The power outage halted the service on a section of the Bloor-Danforth subway from Jane Station to St. George Station, forcing the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to use shuttle buses to accommodate passengers. Police officials have deployed additional officers to the area to prevent looting and assist people in distress.
