Airlines and Airports Warned To Heightened Vigilance Due To Threat
12 Jan 2010
According to reports that emerged on 11 January 2010, Transport Canada, the country’s transportation ministry, issued a memo to airlines and Canadian airports on 9 January advising them to exercise heightened vigilance due to a threat. Canadian officials have not disclosed the exact nature of the threat that prompted the release of the memo, but some reports have indicated that authorities received intelligence that terrorists planned to go to Canada before launching an attack on the United States. Officials have stated that the threat was unrelated to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, which will take place from 12-28 February. The warning remains in effect, but no additional security measures have been put in place.
