Taxi drivers to re-launch strike

Cameroon's National Syndicate of Taxi Drivers (NSTD) announced on 8 September 2008 that it will soon relaunch a strike that it began in February 2008 if the government does not take the necessary steps to address the drivers' grievances. The NSTD has stated that the government has not fully implemented the moves that it promised to make in February, when the union went on strike to protest harassment from police officers over where drivers could pick up passengers and to demand lower fuel prices. Although the government made initial headway on addressing the drivers' grievances, the union now states that the government has reneged on its promises. The NSTD has not announced a specific date when it will renew its protest.
