SECURITY IN YANGON INCREASED

On 7 October 2009 local authorities in Yangon reported that they have increased security in the city's industrial zones after a series of explosions occurred in those areas on 16-17 September. Additional staff and police patrols have been deployed to the Hlaingtharya, Shwepaukan and Mingalardon townships. Several members of anti-government organizations -- at least one of whom is suspected of involvement with the bombings -- were arrested for allegedly plotting unrest and acts of sabotage in the country.
