186,000 people displaced by flooding

Widespread flooding has displaced thousands of people in seven Brazilian states in the Amazon region and along with have killed at least 19 people. The flooding has displaced more than 186,000 residents. Eyewitnesses stated that many people in remote villages could be seen stranded on rooftops. Six major highways in northern Brazil have been washed away, stopping emergency crews and humanitarian workers trying to reach the affected area. Officials claim that the flooding has completely shut down many of the area's most profitable iron ore mines, devastating the regional economy.
