Risk of further civil unrest and transportation disruptions during the following days.

26 Aug 2008
On 25 August 2008 the Bolivian government put all oil and gas installations under military protection after opposition groups threatened to cut supplies to Brazil and Argentina. As part of their threats, pro-autonomy groups in Santa Cruz, Tarija and Chuquisaca departments blocked roads and seized toll booths. As of 25 August roadblocks remain in the region of Chaco, particularly around Villamontes and Yucuiba. Protesters are blocking roads that connect Tarija with Potosi and the border with Argentina. Demonstrators are against President Evo Morales' decision to tax regional revenues from gas fields. The money raised through the levy is being used on social projects. There is an increased risk of further civil unrest and transportation disruptions throughout Bolivia during the following days.
