On 25 January 2009 Bolivian voters will cast their votes on a referendum proposing to redistribute land and mineral wealth and enhance the powers of the administration of President Evo Morales The referendum has been a controversial issue for several months, characterised by protests, harsh rhetoric between Morales and the opposition as well as violence in eastern, mineral-wealthy provinces.
