Farmers protest in Sanata Cruz

On 16 December 2008 hundreds of farmers rode tractors, trucks and other vehicles in a 30 mi/50 km march to the city of Santa Cruz, demanding greater support for the agricultural sector. The farmers began their caravan in eastern Bolivia, a region currently controlled by the opposition party. The farmers are demanding that the government of President Evo Morales work to increase the supply of diesel fuel; they claim that Bolivia is fast approaching a food crisis.
