Demonstrations block roadways and turn violent

On 15 December 2008 demonstrations called to protest a government ban on the importation of used vehicles turned violent. Thousands of protesters blocked two major roadways in Pisiga and Patacamaya, thoroughfares that connect La Paz with the rest of the country. Police officers used force to disperse protesters from the blockade in Patacamaya. At least one person was killed and five were injured in the clashes between the police officers and the protesters.
