Chuquisaca region expelled USAID programs

On 27 September 2008 officials from the Chuquisaca region expelled USAID programs from the territory. President Evo Morales congratulated the region's population for the decision. Chuquisaca is the second Bolivian region to expel USAID programs; Chapare did the same several days earlier, illustrating the continuing deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Bolivian government expelled the U.S. ambassador from the country earlier in September for allegedly encouraging the opposition.
