ROADS & BUILDINGS DAMAGED BY EARTHQUAKE IN EASTERN BHUTAN

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Bhutan at approximately 1453 local time on 21 September 2009. The quake had a depth of 4.5 mi/7.2 km, with the epicentre located 104 mi/168 km east of the capital city of Thimpu. The quake blocked roads and damaged several buildings in eastern Bhutan, killing at least three people. The tremor also caused cracks in some buildings in Guwahati, the capital of India's northeastern Assam state. Tremors were felt in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Lhasa in the Tibet region of western China.
