Hurricane Bertha strengthened to a Category 2 storm on 9 July 2008. The hurricane is moving west-northwest at 9 mph/8 kt with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph/91 kt with higher gusts. As of 0900 local time on 10 July, Hurricane Bertha was located approximately 545 mi/877 km southeast of Bermuda. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, the storm will likely strengthen over the next 24 hours before once again weakening. The hurricane is currently forecast to turn north and bypass Bermuda. However, Bermudian authorities have advised residents and travelers to monitor the storm's progress, as the territory may still experience tropical storm winds.
