The western part of Belize is presently experiencing widespread flooding as a result of Tropical Depression 16. Due to severe flooding of the Mopan river which has inundated the bridge joining Belize and Guatemala, the Belize western border has been closed until further notice. Only entry by Belizeans and exit by Guatemalans returning home is presently being allowed. Several villages and parts of the Western Highway, particularly between San Ignacio and Benque Viejo Town, has been cut off to vehicular traffic. General caution should be taken countrywide as the flood waters are increasing and will be flowing downstream affecting both the Belize and Orange Walk Districts in due course.
