Highways blocked for 4 Hours in Dhaka

Approximately 35,000 workers at Opex Garments in Narayanganj, which is located 12 mi/20 km southeast of Dhaka, blocked traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways for four hours beginning at 0900 local time on 27 April 2010. The workers burned tires along the highway and vandalized 10 vehicles. The situation caused significant traffic congestion in Dhaka. The workers lifted the blockade after the company agreed to meet their demands, including wage increases.
