Government announces a ban on political rallies

On 12 November 2008 the government announced a ban on political rallies. The ban was imposed after a day of violent protests against the arrest of the Jamaat-e-Islami party leader and will last for at least two weeks. Jamaat-e-Islami party members had previously announced their intention to hold further rallies across the country on 12 November.
