Flight disruptions at Dhaka's Shahjalal International airport due to strike
12 May 2010
On 11 May 2010 Padma Oil, the main supplier of jet fuel at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport (VGZR/DAC), warned flight operators not to expect regular aircraft refueling as a result of an ongoing strike by water transportation workers. The strike has prevented workers from unloading and transporting oil from tanker vessels to the airport. Saudi Arabian Airlines has suspended flights to Dhaka; other carriers, including Emirates, are expected to follow suit. The Bangladeshi navy currently has plans to deliver a shipment of jet fuel to the airport as early as 13 May. Bangladesh’s shipping ministry has warned water transportation workers that it will cancel their licenses if they do not end the strike by 1700 local time on 13 May.
