Election results rejected by loosing party

According to results published on 30 December 2008, the Awami League (AL) has won a landslide victory over the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) in general elections that were conducted on 29 December. However, the (BNP) has rejected the results and allege that the elections were fraudulent. The BNP stated that it received reports of voting irregularities at voting stations across the country. While the BNP rejects the results, the election was praised by Bangladeshi media, election monitors and the international community. International observers have also announced the election to be fair and credible.
Election-related violence was reported on 30 December, as at least two people were killed and more than 150 were injured in clashes. The violence erupted between AL and BNP supporters in Pabna district, which is located approximately 130 mi/220 km northwest of Dhaka. One incident occurred during a march organized by AL supporters as fights broke out with BNP supporters who were in the area. One man died of a heart attack as he was fleeing from the violence
