Torrential Rains Cause Flash Flooding In Brisbane
16 Feb 2010
Torrential rains caused flash flooding throughout the Brisbane metropolitan area on 16 February 2010. City officials stated that the transportation network is experiencing lengthy delays and shutdowns because of the flooding. The severe thunderstorms have also reportedly caused power outages to many homes and businesses in Brisbane. Brisbane’s central business district, the suburbs of Woolloongabba, Windsor, Milton, and Paddington have all reported record rainfall and rising water in the streets. Meteorologists expect the heavy rain to subside by 17 February, although residents have been warned to remain indoors and not venture out into flooded areas.
