SYDNEY AIRPORT PARTIALLY SHUT DUE TO GAS LEAK

Part of the international terminal at Sydney Airport was evacuated on the evening of 11 December 2009 due to a suspected gas leak. Airport officials evacuated the facility after people began to report a metallic taste in their mouths. Emergency medical responders treated 24 people at the scene, although none were reporting serious symptoms. The evacuation affected check-in areas D through K, and passengers were being directed to other desks. Reports indicate that flights were delayed, although details regarding the number of flights are not available. Officials have not yet found the source of the suspected leak.
