Severe storm hits south-east Queensland

A severe storm hit southeastern Queensland on 16 November 2008. The storm downed trees and power lines, leaving approximately 230,000 residences and businesses without power. At least one person was killed. In Queensland's capital, Brisbane, the hardest hit areas were the northwestern suburbs. Queensland's premier compared the effects of the storm to Cyclone Larry, which hit the area in March 2006, causing US$645 million in damage.
