HEAT DISRUPTS SYDNEY'S RAIL NETWORK
04 Nov 2009
Record high temperatures caused disruptions on Sydney's CityRail commuter train network on 3 November 2009. Transport authorities stated that temperatures as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius caused power outages and air conditioning unit breakdowns on many passenger trains. One commuter train broke down near the Milsons Point railway station, stranding more than 40 passengers on the tracks for more than an hour. CityRail managers have warned commuters to allow additional travel time as the heat is expected to continue to cause delays.
