23 Mar 2009
On 20 March 2009 an aircraft owned by Emirates airlines was forced to make an emergency landing after its tail was damaged. The Airbus A340 was departing from Melbourne for Dubai with 225 passengers on board when its tail struck the runway during takeoff. The aircraft circled the airport for more than 30 minutes in order to dump fuel. The pilot was able to land safely, and none of the passengers sustained injuries. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
