Cyclone Approaches Western Coast

Tropical Cyclone Magda is approaching the Kimberly coastal region of Western Australia on 21 January 2010 as a category two storm. As of 1200 GMT, the cyclone was located approximately 80 mi/130 km northwest of Kuri Bay and had maximum sustained winds of 58 mph/50 kt with gusts up to 55 mph/63 kt. The storm may intensify -- possibly becoming a category three or four cyclone -- and will make landfall on 22 January, but it will then weaken and dissipate within 96 hours. There is a Cyclone Watch in effect for coastal areas from Mitchell Plateau to Beagle Bay.
