Auto check-in system fails
07 Oct 2008
On 7 October 2008 officials at Australian airline Jetstar reported that the computer automated terminal check-in system at several airports has experienced a significant failure. The failure initially began on 5 October during early morning flights. The problem reportedly continued, and at least 10 flights at Brisbane Airport (YBBN/BNE), Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport (YSSY/SYD), Hobart International Airport (YMHB/HBA) and Gold Coast Airport (YBCG/OOL) were forced to cancel after the check-in system completely went down at the passenger terminals. Airline representatives reported that the passengers on the canceled flights were put in hotels for the night as technicians worked to fix the system. Although most flight only experienced slight delays, some travelers expect to be delayed another 24 hours. Airport authorities have not stated what caused the check-in system to fail.
