Vote to reject increase export taxes
17 Jul 2008
In a 36-37 vote, Argentina’s Senate rejected a controversial proposal to increase agricultural export taxes on 17 July 2008. Vice President Julio Cabos, who has supported farmers' opposition to the legislation, cast the deciding vote against the proposal. Opponents of the bill celebrated in the Palermo neighborhood while riot police officers guarded Congress as hundreds of government supporters protested the outcome.
