Argentine farmers blocked highways and roads nationwide on 19 March 2009 to demand that Congress reduce a tax on soybean exports. Protesters burned tires in some areas, including the town of Armstrong in the southwest province of Santa Fe, a major agricultural center. Farmers warned of additional road blockages on 20 March.
