LAN AIRLINE WORKERS STAGE SURPRISE STRIKE
17 Dec 2009
On 17 December 2009 LAN Airlines workers at Buenos Aires’ Jorge Newberry Airport (SABE/AEP) staged a surprise strike to call for salary increases. The action caused most morning LAN flights to be delayed; flights to Neuquen, Cordoba and Mendoza were cancelled. LAN officials, who called the surprise strike action a “form of pressure,” are expected to meet with Labour Ministry representatives at 1100 local time to discuss the employees’ salary demands. Union leaders did not state how long they plan to continue the strike.
