Buenos Aires metro workers threaten strike following assult on guard

On 3 February 2009 subway workers in Buenos Aires paralysed the service on Line C of the underground metro system, which runs from Retiro to Plaza Constitucion, after an individual attacked a subway guard. The attack occurred at approximately 1930 local time in the San Martin station of Buenos Aires after the individual became agitated over a subway delay. The police arrested the attacker and the guard was taken to a hospital. Protesters threatened to extend the strike if Metrovias, the administrator of the subway system, does not provide greater security for its workers. s
