Air traffic controllers staged a surprise strike at Buenos Aires’ Jorge Newberry Airport
09 Jul 2010
On 8 July 2010 air traffic controllers staged a surprise strike at Buenos Aires’ Jorge Newberry Airport (SABE/AEP) to demand changes to a National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) promotion list that they claim ignores age and seniority. The labor action caused flight delays that lasted into 9 July. Most of the affected flights linked Buenos Aires to the Argentine cities of Comodoro Rivadavia, Cordoba, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, Neuquen and Santa Fe, among others. The strike ended at 2000 local time (2300 UTC) on 8 July, and authorities estimate that flight operations will normalize after approximately 1200 local time (1500 UTC) on 9 July.
