Angola closed part of border with DRC

The Angolan government announced on 6 January 2009 that is has closed part of its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of an effort to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus. At least 10 people have died from the virus and an additional 40 people are reportedly infected in the DRC's Kasai province, which is located in the southern DRC adjacent to Angola's Lunda Norte province; authorities have stopped all trade and travel between the DRC and Lunda Norte province. Angolan authorities report that so far no cases have been confirmed in Lunda Norte province but confirmed that health authorities are on high alert for signs of the virus.
