Medical Assistants Union Warn of Strike Action

The Algerian Medical Assistants’ Union (SAP) warned of a three-day strike set for 25-27 January 2010 and an indefinite strike to begin on 31 January amid an ongoing row regarding workers’ compensation. SAP representatives also claim that officials have recently been attempting to restrict union activities and are demanding the reinstatement of several suspended union leaders. The SAP originally called off a strike in November 2009 after the Ministry of Health began negotiations with the union. Talks have since broken down.
