Demonstrators demand food supplies and equipment to search for flood victims

On 3 October 2008 approximately 5,000 people protested in Ghardaia, located approximately 370 mi/600 km south of Algiers, demanding urgent aid. Flash floods have affected the area in recent days, killing 33 people injuring more than 50 others and leaving at least 1,000 residents homeless. Police officers were able to stop protesters before they reached municipal headquarters. Demonstrators demanded food supplies and equipment to search for survivors.
